Find the cause of a problem

Check capture, dictionary, learning, account and update problems before reporting them.

No word appears, or the wrong word appears

  1. Confirm the lookup trigger is enabled and saved. Test an ordinary selectable word in a simple app to separate a trigger problem from a source-app problem.
  2. On Mac, check Accessibility and, for screen recognition, Screen Recording permission. Return to the app and retry after granting access; follow any system instruction to reopen it.
  3. For image text, check OCR readiness and language support. Enlarge the source text or freeze a smaller relevant region.
  4. Inspect any offered spelling or screen-recognition alternative. If the source still cannot be read, type the word in Search.

No definition, image or sound

  • Confirm there is an enabled, ready dictionary containing the word. Try a familiar word and another source.
  • Local MDX files may need their matching MDD or companion files. Check whether files were moved or removed.
  • Online dictionaries and explanations need a connection; explanation allowance is separate from local lookup.
  • Check volume, pronunciation preferences and dictionary audio resources. Not every dictionary has recordings for every entry.

A word cannot be reviewed or does not sync

Saved words need usable question material. Load the exactly associated book, check for a published question, or prepare a supported dictionary source: local or online on desktop, or AALookup’s public dictionary in the browser. If none is available, no question or rating is created.

Check that both devices use the same account and that sync is not paused by a session or benefit limit. Guest records belong to the original device or browser until an offered transfer is completed. A synchronized word does not carry its local dictionary, captured context or all publisher material.

If a review was saved but the next card failed to load, retry refreshing. Do not repeatedly submit the same rating. For a translation still being recovered, retrieve the existing result instead of submitting a duplicate.

Update through the right channel

Use the app’s update entry or the official download page. Update behavior depends on the platform and installation channel: a development build, store installation or preview package may not use the same automatic installer as an official desktop release.

Check the installed version against release notes when a guide describes an entry you cannot find. Keep a copy of important local dictionary files and exported material before changing devices or reinstalling.

Send a useful problem report

Use Feedback in the main window for product feedback, or Support for a bug report or private contact. Choosing a feedback category is separate from explicitly sending written feedback.

Include your app version, operating system, the action you tried, what you expected and what actually happened. Add a cropped screenshot if useful. Public GitHub issues are visible to others: remove account details, credentials, private reading text and copyrighted dictionary pages you cannot share.
