Search deliberately and revisit earlier lookups

Use the main window when you want a larger reading space or need to return to a word.

Updated 2026-10-06 · Read on GitHub Wiki

  1. Open Search and type the word or phrase you want. Choose a suggestion when appropriate, then submit the query.
  2. Read results from enabled dictionaries. Use the source navigation and result controls to inspect different entries instead of repeating the query.
  3. Open links inside a full entry to continue reading. Use available back and forward controls to return to an earlier entry.
  4. Adjust the dictionary’s zoom or appearance if the original layout is hard to read. Save useful words to your vocabulary collection.

Use quick search when you already know the spelling

The desktop quick-search entry is useful when there is no word under the pointer, for example when a word comes to mind while writing. Type the word directly instead of trying to capture it from another app. Check Settings for the available trigger on your platform.

Manual search has no captured reading sentence unless you provide or arrive with one. A result found this way should not be assumed to explain the meaning in a passage the app has never seen.

Return through History

History helps you revisit lookups and their locally available context. Open a record to return to its word or available result. AI lookup results may offer recovery when an earlier online answer was interrupted. Translation records have their own workspace and retention rules.

History is not the review queue, and account vocabulary sync is not a backup of every lookup or captured sentence. Save a word to Words when you want to schedule learning. Use the deletion controls for records you no longer want to keep on this device.
