Let a local assistant use AALookup
Enable optional desktop agent access and understand the actions it permits.
Connect from desktop Settings
- Open Settings → Integrations → Agent access (MCP). This capability starts disabled and is available only on desktop.
- Enable it and Save. Use the client setup entry offered for your installed assistant, such as Claude Code, Claude Desktop, Codex/ChatGPT desktop or WorkBuddy.
- Finish the client’s connection flow and test a simple dictionary lookup. Keep the access credential private; turn access off and save when you no longer want the connection.
Know which actions the assistant can take
A connected local assistant can look up words, read lookup history, saved words and study progress, save words, and manage dictionaries. Dictionary management can include appearance changes and custom scripts, so enable access only for a client you trust.
An action that opens a normal lookup can use online explanations just like a manual lookup. Saving a word can participate in your enabled account sync. Ask your assistant for a read-only lookup if that is all you need; connecting it does not make every action read-only.
What the connection does not provide
The connection is local to this computer and requires its access credential. The tool interface does not provide personal notes, captured sentences, review cards, publisher HTML or full word-book material, API keys, or filesystem paths.
It is not a public remote dictionary server and is not available in the website or mobile app. If connection fails, confirm the desktop app is running, the setting was saved and the client configuration is current.
